Our Legion has long supported the Cadet movement in Oshawa in the promotion of leadership, fitness and the spirit of service to country. In particular, we work closely with our Cadet Organizations, as Cadets support the Legion in promoting Remembrance and honouring Canada's Veterans.

The Legion supports youth sports in our community and help channel athletes into the Legion’s Provincial and National track and field programs. The Legion’s National Youth Track and Field competition is the only one of its kind in Canada and has come to be regarded as one of the best in the country. In fact, many of our former participants have gone on to international and Olympic success.

Through the Legion, many youth from local schools have learned the value of artistic, educational opportunities and speaking skills, by promoting and encouraging Remembrance among the next generation.

In The Community

The Legion comprise one of the largest volunteer bases in the country, committing millions of volunteer hours each year.

Through its local Branches and members, the Legion raises funds and supports essential services for those in need, and responds to the unique needs of Oshawa. The Sir William Stephenson Branch, along with our sister Branch #43 in the south end, contribute $200,000 or more to our local community yearly.

Fundraising from our Branch go to support essential community services, local Cadet programs, to offering supports for seniors and families in need, regional health and nursing facilities as well as organizing commemorative ceremonies and promoting Remembrance, and more.

In times of local or regional crisis, Legion Branches and Legionnaires are there to support those who have been adversely affected by an emergency.

The Sir William Stephenson Branch #637 is honoured to be associated with the Ontario Regiment Museum as members and supporters.
